Unlock a Protected PDF

Encryption is useful right up to the moment it becomes an obstacle. Bank statements, payslips, insurance policies and utility bills often arrive password-protected, and once the file is safely stored on your own machine, typing the password every time you open it — and again every time you print it — is simply friction. Removing the protection from your own copy makes the document behave like any other file.

Upload the protected PDF, enter the password it was locked with, and download an unencrypted version. The content is untouched: the same pages, the same text, the same images and the same layout, just without the password prompt. The unlocked copy can then be searched by your operating system, indexed by your document manager, printed without interruption and archived normally.

This tool removes protection from documents you can already open — it needs the correct password and does not attempt to break encryption, which is both technically impractical and not something we would do with someone else's file. Once the password is gone, remember that anyone with access to the file can read it, so store the unlocked copy somewhere sensible. If you later need to protect it again, the Protect PDF tool adds a new password. The service is free and deletes your upload from the server after processing.
